FITEL- The launch of new Mass Fusion Splicers - S123M8 and S123M12

October 05, 2010

Fusion Splicer S123M12

Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. (FEC) has announced the launch of the latest FITEL brand Hand-held Fusion Splicer S123M8 and S123M12, as the successor to S122M8 and S122M12 respectively. S123M8 has the capacity to splice from 1 to maximum 8-ribbon fiber while S123M12 can splice from 1 to maximum 12-ribbon fiber.

One of the major improvements achieved for S123M8 and S123M12 is the significantly reduced operation time. Protection sleeve shrink time is 35 seconds for ribbon fiber sleeve, while splicing requires only 15 seconds for 8 or 12 ribbon fiber. Also, power saving technology used in these machines allows up to 160 splicing cycles (Splicing/heating) by 2 battery packs installed in Main body.

Another feature of S123M8/12 is the ruggedness. Using the similar platform as the other newly launched FITEL Splicers S178A/S153A/S123C/S123M4, these two machines are both designed to endure harsh operating conditions by improving shock resistance with rubber pads embedded on 4 corners of the splicer body. It also achieves the water resistance equivalent of IPX2, and dust resistance equivalent of IP5X.

Fusion Splicer S123M12

In the field where you are required to splice various fibers such as single, 4-ribbon and 8/12 ribbon, this versatile and user friendly hand-held S123M8/12 is the perfect tools to have. It has the ability to splice any fibers up to 8 and 12 ribbon respectively by simply changing the fiber holders, in any fields such as FTTx, LAN, backbone and long-haul installations where fast and consistent splicing is the absolute necessity.

Features

  • Fast Splice and Heating
      Splicing 15 - sec./ Heating - 35 sec.
  • Long Battery life
Power saving technology allows up to 160 splicing and heating cycles by fully charged battery packs installed in the main body.
  • Shock resistant design
4 rubbers pads in corners of the machine boosts the shock resistance significantly compared with the previous models. It is capable of producing precise splicing after 76cm drops from 5 different angles except top surface drop.(Note1)
  • Dust / Water resistant design
New design achieved IPX2(Note2) water resistance and IP5X(Note3) dust resistance.

Glossary

(note1) The test was performed at Furukawa Electric Co., Labs, and do not guarantee that the machine will be undamaged under these conditionsBack to Main Content

(note2) IPX2 rating drip proof means that the machine can be exposed to 3 mm/min drip from 4 different angles with 15° tilt for 2.5 min each and still functions. Back to Main Content

(note3) IP5X rating dust proof means that the machine can be exposed to dust particles with a diameter of 0.1 to 25µm for 8 hours and still functions. Back to Main Content

(note4) The first heating after turning on the power can be longer than usual heating time.Back to Main Content

(note5) The number of the splicing and heating the machine can produce using fully charged 2 brand new batteries at room temperature of 20 degree C. Depending on the condition of the battery and operation environment, the number varies. Back to Main Content
